What are "material directions" (aka "substantive directions" or "directions of matter")?

We observe that there are two types of electrically charged materials, “positive” and “negative”. This is a two-degree of freedom system. In space, when we have two degrees of freedom, we use “spatial directions”, “north-south (latitude)” and “east-west (longitude)”. Therefore, it goes that “positive” and “negative” are nothing but the “material directions” of a two-dimensional substance.

The rule for “material directions” is that different material directions interacting generate attraction, whereas same material directions interacting generate repulsion. The rule for spatial directions is that different spatial directions intersecting generate rotations, whereas same spatial directions intersecting generate translation.

Here is the naming scheme for spatial and material directions by the dimensionality of space and substance:
